Did I kiss a pig recently?? Hmmm, I don't think so, but somehow I ended up with the Swine Flu. No this isn't a joke it's really true. The swine flu has recently made a surprise and not so exciting visit to Team D's home. And let's just say we are so glad it's finally gone.
This past weekend I got very sick. I thought it was a cold, ate soup, stayed in bed and took Tylenol for the fever & headache. Come Monday morning with no relief in site Bill took me to the doctor. After a complete exam she says "I am pretty sure it's the Swine Flu but I cannot be sure because I cannot test you. You are out of the window of time that it would test positive" and oh yeah "we can't give you the Tamaflu medication because of that as well."
We were sent home with the following recommendations:
- Stay home, do not go out
- Drink lots of fluids
- Treat it like any flu but just "be careful because Swine Flu can turn into pneumonia very easily"
So home we went and home we stayed all of us for 4 days!!! Bill called in sick every day this week except today. When he wasn't feeling ill himself (he didn't get it, just felt crummy) he was cooking, cleaning to his best abilities and caring for the girls. Cause I was out cold most of the week sleeping & resting.
And let me tell you folks this flu is no joke. It's bad news! You have all the cold symptoms ie...headache, cough, sore throat. And then throw the flu symptoms on top of it fever, chills, vomiting and don't forget the runs. It's so lovely!!! I felt no relief and like a truck had hit me & then run me over 3 or 4 times. Today, Friday, one week since my first symptoms and I am finally up & moving around on my own. The girls and I went out for 2 hrs and I had to come home and take a nap because I was so exhausted. It just wiped all my energy too.
So don't go kissing any pigs! No seriously, wash your hands & stay away from anyone who is sick. This thing is very contagious & what you might think is a cold could be something more. So be aware.
